Rumor: SOCOM Creators to be shut down by Sony
Zipper Interactive, creators of SOCOM is apparently being hit by layoffs to an extent where the studio might be shutdown completely, understands Kotaku. Apparently, Sony have declined to comment on this at all stating they don’t discuss rumor or speculation according to company policy.
Apparently, Zipper Interactive faced a project cancellation following which there have been layoffs at the studio. Since 1996, Zipper Interactive has been responsible for hit titles like MechWarrior 3 and Crimson Skies. Sony acquired the studio in 2006 to bring titles to the console. Quite sadly, their recent SOCOM title launched during the PSN Downtime last year and although MAG received good reviews, it didn’t sell well.
Their most recent title was Unit 13 for the PlayStation Vita. Check out more about the game here.
