Call of Duty Black Ops coming to Apple Mac, Predicting System Requirements

The original Call of Duty: Black Ops released in 2010 is going to hit Apple Macs this year. Curtains Open, Applause.

Publisher Aspyr, one of the biggest Mac game publishers, known for bringing Modern Warfare (COD4), RAGE, Civilization V and more to the Mac, are going to be working on bringing Call of Duty: Black Ops to the Apple Operating System.

“Aspyr has worked with the biggest brands in the entertainment world, but the launch of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops for Apple fans is our biggest in 17 years. Treyarch has created a masterpiece and we are thrilled to launch later this year,” said Ted Staloch, Aspyr’s Executive Vice President.

The game is slated to be made available this fall in both digital and boxed formats.

Although System Requirements for the Black Ops version of Mac has not yet been made available by Aspyr, we’re expecting them to be out pretty soon. Having said it, the Mac is able to run on lower system specifications due to it’s high optimization.

Below are the system specs of some previously released CoD titles,

Call of Duty 2 (Universal Binary)

  • 1.8GHz G5 or Intel CPU (recommended 2GHz)
  • 512MB RAM
  • 64MB VRAM

Call of Duty 4 (Intel-only)

  • Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz (2.4GHz recommended)
  • 2GB RAM
  • 256MB VRAM

Considering that the Windows version required a minimum processor specification of an Intel Core2 Duo E6600 or an AMD Phenom X3 8750 or better, 2GB of Memory (RAM), a 256MB nVidia GeForce 8600GT/ ATI Radeon x1950Pro or better, we’re guessing that the Black Ops for Mac would require,

  • A Dual Core Processor – Possibly an Intel Core2 Duo @2.4 GHz or Greater,
  • At least 4GB RAM,
  • A 256MB Graphics Card for the lower graphics, 512MB Graphics Card for better performance.
